WELCOME, ALPHA CHI!
"The greatest thing in this world is not so much where we stand, as in what direction we are moving." Goethe
Greetings to the Members of Lambda Kappa Sigma:
On June 7, Lambda Kappa Sigma celebrated the chartering of a new chapter, Alpha Chi, at Northeastern Ohio University Colleges of Medicine and Pharmacy in Rootstown, Ohio. Thirteen women were initiated during the ceremony held under the direction of Past Grand President Jennifer Rhodes and Central Region Supervisor Dorothea Andrews. This is such a monumental event for several reasons. First, in these times of economic challenge, the launch of a new organization on a college campus is a tribute to the belief that our organization has significant benefit to the individuals who compose it's charter membership, it's future members, and to the campus itself. Also, it provides Lambda Kappa Sigma with one more opportunity to provide professional development and leadership experience to women in pharmacy. Lastly, it is amazing to acknowledge that while we are on the verge of celebrating 100 years of advocating for women in pharmacy, we are still committed to the development of new chapters and the opportunity to fulfill our mission on campuses and in communities that have not known Lambda Kappa Sigma in the past. Congratulations to these charter members of Alpha Chi chapter: Jaclyn Kruse, Stephanie Curtis, Heather Skekloff, Riane Ghamrawi, Natalie Kolehmainen, Nancy Nguyen, Rayna Czenkner, Ciara Rauckhorst, Ivy Muteithia, Nicole Vivacqua, Alicia Lynch, Jessica Benton and Christy McKenzie.
Another indication of the direction our Fraternity is moving in is that we are close to having 100% of our collegiate chapters represented at the Recruitment Boot Camp and regional meeting. I have been able to have a personal conversation with an officer from almost every collegiate chapter. Based on these conversations, we can expect an excellent turnout not only at the Recruitment Boot Camp, but also for the Regional Meeting. Since this meeting is strongly targeted at creating a firm foundation for success in our collegiate chapters, it is critical that every chapter be represented and therefore the strategies for success can be implemented as a standard process at each collegiate chapter. In addition, there are some very exciting topics scheduled for presentation and discussion at this meeting, and few new twists and turns to make the event fun. This is a meeting that will be remembered - for all the right reasons - for some time to come!
Finally, I want to emphasize that it has been my intention to reinvent the role of the Grand Council in fraternity operations. Your Grand Council officers take all activities of the fraternity - collegiate chapter, alumni chapter, alumni at large, and all other associated functions - entirely personally. And we invite you to join us in this regard. For LKS members, our chosen profession draws us together. It is, however, our dedication - to the each other and to the fraternity - that makes membership in this organization a profoundly personal experience. Just as I have invited all those I spoke with over the last several weeks to contact the Grand Council members at any time for any reason, I invite the general membership to do the same. We are moving in the right direction. Take a minute to review the mission of LKS - it's time to take it personally!
Fraternally,
