Ethel Heath Scholarship Spotlight: Meet Shrinal Patel!

What all were you involved in during your time in college? (clubs, sports, extra-curriculars, volunteering, etc)?

LKS, Rho Chi, APHA, Chemistry peer tutor, CVS Pharmacy Intern, Westwood Lodge Pharmacy Intern, Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society

What would you consider the “perfect balance” for studying, work, sleep, and a social life?

I made sure to get at least 8-9 hours of sleep a night. I was not one to pull all nighters. I tried to stay ahead of my work to be sure I could still maintain an eventful social life. There were definitely some weekends that work and studying took over, but for the most part I was able to see my friends every weekend!

Did you ever have to sacrifice one of the things above to maintain such good grades?

My fourth year, I was maid of honor for my sisters wedding. Being busy with school, work, and planning the wedding, I was not able to see my friends as much.

What advice would you give your sisters about managing the stress that comes with trying to live a “balanced” life in pharmacy school?

If you stay ahead of your work and try not to procrastinate, you will not be stressed when exam time comes. For me, if I did fall behind I hated wasting time stressing. Instead, I would make a plan to get what I needed to get done and start immediately. Sometimes it involved studying on my off time at work, studying while on the treadmill, or even while getting pedicures at times! I was very big on multitasking.
