Student Spotlight: Meet Rebecca Vales!

LKS spotlights student and alumni members that are making a difference in their chapters, in their communities, and in the field of pharmacy.

Tell us about yourself: (school, chapter, work, hobbies, LKS activities, meetings attended)

I’m in the class of 2023 at the University of Connecticut School of Pharmacy and a sister of Alpha Beta chapter. While I currently do not work in a pharmacy, I work in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at UConn, which I love! Last year, I held the role of fundraising chair in Alpha Beta chapter, in which I fundraised over $1500! Currently, I hold the role of new member educator. Along with another sister, I am in charge of our recruitment efforts and the orientation process of welcoming new lambs. I love being a new member educator. I feel that this role lets me strongly represent our core value of sisterhood. I get to share my love for Lambda Kappa Sigma with others and bond with current and new sisters by doing so!
What LKS related events are you looking forward to in this upcoming year?
An LKS event I’m looking forward to this year is our Hygea Day event. Our chapter is hosting Dr. Cheryl Beck as a speaker. She will be speaking about her career interests of Postpartum depression and PTSD due to Childbirth. I think this topic is fascinating and supports our women’s health initiative.
What is your favorite chapter/school tradition?
My favorite chapter tradition is Battle of the Rx’s. This is an annual friendly competition that we have with Kappa Psi where we play “Minute to Win It” games. It’s a lot of fun!

Who do you see as your role model in LKS and why?

My role model in LKS is my big, Alexis Droesch. She has always supported and helped me throughout my pharmacy school journey so far, whether it’s sharing helpful notes for a class, helping me prepare for my pharmacy school interview, giving me advice, etc. Alexis was my new member educator when I joined as a freshman and she inspired me to love LKS just as much as she does. She encouraged me to go into leadership roles and for that I cannot thank her enough!
What makes you excited to be a ‘lamb for life?’
I am so grateful and excited to be a lamb for life! Lambda Kappa Sigma is such a great support network and has given me some of my best friends. I couldn’t be happier that I joined LKS.
