Tell us about yourself: (school, chapter, work, hobbies, LKS activities, meetings attended, career plans)
Hi! My name is Tam Hong and I am a PGY3 student at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Studies in Boston. I am the current treasurer for the alpha chapter. I joined LKS in spring of 2019. Outside of school I am a pharmacy intern at Greater Boston Long Term Care and CVS pharmacy in Boston, MA. I also have a summer lab internship at Nova Biomedical, a company that manufactures analyzers for hospitals in Waltham, MA. I have attended virtual convention in 2020 and I look forward to attending more in the future. My hobbies include baking, shopping, and running (but only on a treadmill).
Which of our core values (sisterhood, leadership, service, scholarship and integrity) do you feel you most strongly represent and how?
I feel that the values that I most strongly represent are leadership and sisterhood. As treasurer, I have an opportunity to be a leader and have more responsibility in alpha chapter by managing the budget and dues. I have improved my organization, communication, and management skills immensely this year. Not only has that been useful in LKS but it helped me grow as a leader in other areas of my life. I have used the leadership skills that I have built in LKS to be team manager for my capstone project. I also feel like I represent sisterhood because I have found my best friends in LKS. My sisters are an amazing support system. We always help each other study, share advice, and know exactly how to make each other laugh when we are down. We have all grown so much together and I would not be the person I am today without them.
What pharmacy or LKS related events are you looking forward to in this upcoming year?
An event that I am looking forward to this year is the Final Banquet. I love celebrating my sisters and all our individual and chapter successes for the year. It gives us time to reflect on all the things we accomplished in LKS and what LKS has done for us.
What is your favorite chapter/school tradition?
My favorite LKS tradition is Hygeia day. It’s an event when our whole chapter both collegiate and alumni come together for an informative presentation on a topic in pharmacy. I love meeting alumni and learning from their wisdom.
Who do you see as your role model in LKS and why?
I see my advisor Christine Perry as my role model in LKS. She is always there for alpha chapter with the best advice and guidance. Not only does she check in and help us during hard times but she is also there to celebrate our successes. She is not only a great sister but also a great pharmacist. She is the Pharmacy Recruiting and College Relations team for Shaw’s Osco and Albertsons and she utilized her expertise to help her sister by holding webinars to prepare us for interviews and much more.
What makes you excited to be a ‘lamb for life?’
I am excited to be a “lamb for life” because of all the connections I made. I have met my best friends and mentors through LKS and I know they will always be there for me and I will always be there for them. I want to participate in the Alpha alumni chapter when I graduate to have the opportunity to give back to the collegiate chapter like the alumni had done for me.
