We are thrilled to unveil the 2024 Educational Grants program, and this year’s announcement comes with a momentous focus—the Rosemond A. Guinn Grant. This grant, made possible through our partnership with UFCW Local 770, marks a significant step towards a more inclusive future for pharmacy.
The Rosemond A. Guinn Educational Grant: A Tribute to a Pioneer
The Rosemond A. Guinn Grant is named in honor of Rosamond Alice Guinn, one of the eight founders of Lambda Kappa Sigma and a trailblazer in the world of pharmacy. Rosamond Guinn made history by becoming the first African American woman to register as a pharmacist in southeastern Massachusetts. Her courage and dedication paved the way for generations of future pharmacists, breaking down barriers and inspiring change.
This grant is a living tribute to Rosamond Guinn’s remarkable legacy. It aims to provide financial support to ethnically or racially minoritized members of Lambda Kappa Sigma who are pursuing careers in pharmacy. In creating this grant, we seek to celebrate diversity and empower those who face unique challenges on their educational journey.
A Special Partnership with UFCW Local 770
UFCW Local 770, a powerful advocate for workers’ rights and diversity, has played a pivotal role in making the Rosemond A. Guinn Grant a reality. Their support for the grant and their commitment to advancing opportunities for minoritized pharmacy students are a testament to their dedication to our shared values. A Dedicated Advocate: Jessica Crowley’s Impact
Lambda Kappa Sigma’s 2024 Distinguished Young Pharmacist Award recipient, Jessica Crowley, plays a pivotal role in this partnership as Vice President of UFCW Local 770. Her dedication and passion for advancing opportunities for underrepresented communities in pharmacy have been instrumental in establishing the Rosemond A. Guinn Grant.
Our Collective Commitment
As we embark on this journey into 2024, Lambda Kappa Sigma, in partnership with UFCW Local 770 and thanks to individuals like Jessica Crowley, remains steadfast in our commitment to advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and access in the pharmacy profession. The Rosemond A. Guinn Grant is more than financial support; it’s a symbol of hope, progress, and unity.
Join us in celebrating this monumental addition to our Educational Grants program, and together, we can make a profound impact on the future of pharmacy education, the diversity of our profession, and support outstanding students through increased grant amounts. We eagerly anticipate your applications and look forward to witnessing the incredible achievements of the Rosemond A. Guinn Grant recipients.
