Gwendolyn Knowles, PharmD
Dr. Knowles is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Administration at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore School of Pharmacy. She maintains a clinical practice site in acute care/internal medicine at TidalHealth Peninsula Regional Hospital in Salisbury, MD.
Prior to joining UMES, Dr. Knowles completed a two-year Pharmacotherapy residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI. It was during this time she solidified her passion for teaching and precepting. During residency, she obtained a teaching certificate from Wayne State University Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. She also served as a preceptor in multiple capacities to IPPE students, APPE students, and pharmacy residents on clinical rotation, research, and various projects. After completing residency training, Dr. Knowles went on to pursue a career in pharmacy academia. In her current role, she most often precepts APPE students and PGY-1 pharmacy residents on her acute care internal medicine rotation. Outside of her practice, Dr. Knowles enjoys serving as a mentor to student pharmacists, especially those pursuing the next steps of their pharmacy career.
Dr. Knowles currently holds a pharmacy license in Michigan and Maryland. She is a member of the American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP), American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP), and American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP). She currently serves as the Grand Vice President for Development of the Lambda Kappa Sigma (LKS) pharmacy fraternity and as a peer reviewer for the American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy. Outside of her professional interests, Dr. Knowles spends her time at home with her partner, three cats, and can often be found playing video games or Dungeons and Dragons.
