Chapter Spotlight: Alpha Theta Sparks Sisterhood Through Service, Socials, and Strong Connections

Though recruitment season has already come to an end this fall for many of our chapters, for those who participate in Spring Recruitment, the planning has likely already begun. The Alpha Theta chapter at University of Buffalo School of Pharmacy in Buffalo, New York changed their approach to recruitment this year, hosting two full weeks of events to engage and educate potential new members (PNMs). By incorporating all pillars of LKS sisterhood into their events, Alpha Theta has been able to help PNMs learn about the mission of the fraternity, as well as provide an opportunity for them to experience the sisterhood firsthand.

During their two-week recruitment experience, Alpha Theta focused on building genuine connections and showcasing the values of Lambda Kappa Sigma. To help PNMs get a feel for their sisterhood, Alpha Theta hosted a Boba Tea Social and a Friendship Bracelet making event. To showcase their passion for community service, the sisters also included philanthropic events in their recruitment experience, volunteering their time at the community food pantry and participating in a Bowling for Hope Fundraiser for Project Hope. The chapter is also very proud of their Volleyball and Picnic event, which was their final event of the two-week experience. They finished strong, experiencing their largest turnout yet for their annual game. Over the course of the experience, the chapter showed who they were as a chapter, attracting PNMs that shared their values and culture.

The chapter largely attributes their recruitment success to taking initiative early on in the school year. By welcoming incoming P1 students even before classes began, they ensured that the P1s knew about the opportunities, support, and sisterhood LKS offers from day one of their pharmacy journey. Alpha Theta also expanded their reach to the wider campus community by promoting LKS and sharing their commitment to service and leadership through a fundraising event during the White Coat Ceremony. With these diverse efforts, the chapter was able to grow significantly, expanding by nearly half in just one semester. Way to go, Alpha Theta!

The Alpha Theta president had the following advice for anyone considering joining the LKS sisterhood: come to events with an open mind, connect with our members, and you’ll quickly see the passion we have for sisterhood, service, and leadership. By choosing to join LKS, you will join a community that will enrich your pharmacy school experience in ways that last far beyond graduation. LKS provides a family of lifelong members that will be there for you academically, professionally, and personally.

Take note of the efforts of the Alpha Theta chapter and help PNMs discover what makes LKS so special!
