In March of 2024, the Beta Beta chapter was reactivated at Western New England University in Springfield, Massachusetts. Since their reactivation, the chapter has been working hard to promote the benefits of Lambda Kappa Sigma membership through their recruitment events. The chapter has made unique efforts to include participants that are not present on campus, referred to as the “distance cohort”. The chapter is proud of their efforts, which have been successful in supporting chapter growth.
This year, Beta Beta decided to introduce two new recruitment events to increase their reach for potential new members (PNMs). Their recruitment schedule includes an information session, a speed dating event, and a “Why We Started” event. All these events included opportunities for students in the distance cohort to be involved via video conferencing. The sisters really enjoyed how the speed dating event provided them with an opportunity to get to know not just other PNMs but also learn more about their fellow sisters, that are both on-campus and in the distance cohort, through a variety of prompts and topics.
The “Why We Started” event is a unique recruitment event that allowed existing collegiate and alumni members to be able to convey how much LKS means to them and emphasize the lifelong bonds and professional relationships that can come with LKS membership. Speakers at this event included Dr. McCormick, Beta Beta chapter Advisor, Dr. Bonzagni, LKS alumni and founding member of Beta Beta chapter, Alisha Ghossein, past Beta Beta chapter President, Michele Wysocki, past Beta Beta Vice President, Emaleigh Lindsay, current Beta Beta chapter President, and Saylor Reed, current Beta Beta chapter Vice President. Speakers emphasized that LKS is more than just another organization, but a place for pharmacy students to support one another.
Through their recruitment efforts this year, Beta Beta chapter is proud to report that they have 20 PNM members going through the recruitment process this semester. This initiation class will almost double the chapter size for the upcoming year. Great work Beta Beta!
Take note of the Beta Beta chapter’s efforts and consider implementing the following in your own chapter recruitment efforts:
- Include a variety of recruitment events to help PNMs become familiar with your chapter and the culture of LKS.
- Provide a video conferencing attendance option so that off-campus PNMs are able to attend.
- Bring in current collegiate and alumni members to share their stories about membership.
