Chapter Spotlight: Beta Delta Chapter at SIUE Shines Through Service, Leadership, and Sisterhood

On March 18th, 2022, the Beta Delta chapter of Lambda Kappa Sigma was founded at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) School of Pharmacy. With 23 active sisters, Beta Delta engages with the local community, supports leadership development, and has a successful recruitment strategy.

Beta Delta actively engages with both the campus and local community through a variety of events with a focus on personal growth, education, and community service. Students are engaged via lunch and learns hosted by Beta Delta chapter. Through these events, students are able to develop both their professional and leadership skills. Examples of topics include CV tips and reviews, as well as interview tips. To raise awareness during Sexual Assault Awareness Week, the sisters of Beta Delta partner with local organizations to host a walk and other on-campus activities. For community service, Beta Delta sisters cook breakfast for the Ronald McDonald House Charities, promote women’s health through the campus health fair, and assemble Easter baskets for the Good Samaritan House. These activities demonstrate their commitment to both campus involvement and service to others.

Another strategy for chapter success Beta Delta possesses includes supporting leadership development. This is done by hosting events that encourage personal growth and professional networking. For instance, the Lunch and Learn sessions, featuring speakers like Christine Perry, offer valuable insights into leadership, such as how to lead with confidence without the pressure of being liked. This perspective empowers members to embrace authentic leadership styles and focus on making impactful decisions. Another example includes the Women in Pharmacy Nights, which provide an opportunity for current members to engage with alumni, fostering mentorship and open dialogue. These sessions allow for candid conversations, where members can ask questions about navigating their careers and leadership challenges. Together, these initiatives create a supportive environment for developing the leadership skills necessary for future success.

Lastly, to encourage involvement in Beta Delta, the chapter actively engages the campus community through participation in the annual student organization fair. This allows incoming P1 students to explore the various organizations offered by SIUE. The chapter also hosts informational meetings to help prospective members better understand the core values and opportunities afforded by Lambda Kappa Sigma. The sisterhood bond formed through the Beta Delta chapter not only provides support throughout pharmacy school but also helps create memories and friendships that will last a lifetime.

Let’s recap! How can your chapter promote community service, leadership, and involvement like Beta Delta?
