A Bit About Our History

Lambda Kappa Sigma was founded in 1913 at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy by librarian Ethel J. Heath (pictured at right) and eight female students (Annabel Carter Jones, Mary Connolly Livingston, Emma MacDonnell Cronin, Willette McKeever Cheever, Mary Durgin Loveland, Alice G. Coleman, Margaret M. Curran and Rosemond A. Guinn). Since its founding, LKS has initiated more than 24,000 members and has chartered 49 campus and 38 alumni chapters.

The Fraternity provides lifelong opportunities for women in pharmacy through professional achievements and personal growth. LKS provides a variety of educational programs with an emphasis placed on Women’s Health Issues.

What We Stand For

Lambda Kappa Sigma provides lifelong opportunities for women in pharmacy through professional excellence and personal growth. At the heart of our actions stands a strong sisterhood—fostering support and encouragement for every member to realize their potential and become the best they can be. We are sisters leading with integrity, inspiring excellence and making an impact on the future of pharmacy and our world.

  • A Lambda Kappa Sigma sister leads with integrity. Our sisters are true to their values, encourage unique viewpoints and empower sisters to advance the pharmacy profession.
  • A Lambda Kappa Sigma sister inspires excellence. Our sisters instill passion, confidence, intellectual development and bring others along with them to realize their professional and personal potential.
  • A Lambda Kappa Sigma sister impacts her community. Our sisters demonstrate compassion, advocate for women’s health issues and seek to better our world. Learn about our philanthropy (Project HOPE) and our current Women’s Health Issue.

Motto

Esse Quam Videri: “To be, rather than seem to be.”

Flower: Chrysanthemum

The roots are alumni who provide a strong foundation. The stem represents current members who contribute the framework for new and continual growth. The blossoms are the new members who have been allowed to grow, develop and flourish from the support of the roots and stem. It is through their efforts that future generations of pharmacy leaders and visionaries find their way into the Lambda Kappa Sigma sisterhood! Become a member of the nation’s oldest (and best!) professional fraternity focusing on women in pharmacy.
