Founded on June 22, 1927, the Xi Chapter at the University of Rhode Island stands as one of the most enduring and active chapters in Lambda Kappa Sigma. With 135 active members, Xi continues to build upon its rich history by making a vibrant impact on both campus life and the local community.
One of Xi’s most meaningful community engagement efforts includes supporting small businesses through creative fundraisers and raffles. These events not only help local entrepreneurs but also bring sisters together for a common cause. Whether it’s organizing pop-up markets or collaborating with local shops for themed baskets, the chapter thrives on making a difference right at home.
Leadership is a cornerstone of Xi’s success, and it shows in the structure and spirit of the chapter. With an Executive Board at the helm and a dynamic committee system in place, members are encouraged to step into leadership roles early and often. Each sister is placed on a committee, giving everyone the chance to develop their leadership skills over time. “We often see members start out engaged in committee work, become chairs the next year, and eventually join the E-board,” one sister shared. “Our sisterhood plays a huge role in lifting each other up and preparing everyone for these opportunities.”
When it comes to recruitment, Xi’s strategy focuses on connection and authenticity. Through a variety of engaging events—like community service projects, bracelet-making sessions, and even fun speed dating-style events—new members get a real sense of the chapter’s energy and values. These events provide meaningful face time with active sisters and reflect the deep bonds that define Xi’s sisterhood.
With a legacy nearing 100 years, the Xi Chapter at URI is a shining example of how tradition and innovation can go hand in hand. We can’t wait to see what’s next for this inspiring group of sisters!
