The Omicron chapter at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI is emphasizing sisterhood. With 71 active sisters, Omicron has had to get creative to find ways to keep every member connected and engaged. This year, they implemented a number of new events that they hope will become regular staples in their sisterhood development programs.
One new event Omicron implemented this year was the Sister Soiree (see photo above). This event began with a reveal for all of the littles to finally get to meet their bigs! After the exciting big/little reveal event, they all had dinner as a chapter. To conclude the soiree, the sisters participated in chapter speed-dating, where individuals rotated tablets to get to know members from each class on a deeper level. With such a large chapter, an event like this is necessary to ensure that members have an opportunity to develop a connection with someone from a different class cohort, or another student that they may not have interacted with before.
Omicron is also promoting the health of their members through a new sisterhood wellness series. A committee of members worked together to create a schedule of many events throughout the year that promoted wellness and sisterhood among their chapter. Some of these events included a Galentine’s day retreat with face masks and tea tasting, a museum trip, and an outdoor wellness walk. The sisters also participated in an after-school yoga class together (see photo below). Omicron chapter is very proud of these events, as they have been well-received by the chapter and fostered a stronger sisterhood bond amongst members. Wellness events are a great way to encourage sisterhood, as well as help with stress relief and improving mental health (also the WHI for this biennium!). Take a tip from Omicron and consider implementing wellness events into your sisterhood event schedule in your own chapter!
