Founded in 1956 at Long Island University in Brooklyn, New York, the Alpha Eta chapter wholeheartedly embodies the Lambda Kappa Sigma core value of service. With 27 active sisters, the Alpha Eta chapter has worked hard to make a meaningful difference by giving back to their campus and community.
Collaboration with other organizations is something that has helped Alpha Eta chapter become known for their philanthropic events on Long Island University’s campus. When asked what event they were most proud of, Alpha Eta chapter mentioned a fundraiser for Toys for Tots that was hosted in the Fall of 2023. The sisters worked hard to collaborate with several other organizations on campus to host a bake sale to raise money for their local Toys for Tots campaign, helping to ensure that the children in their community were able to receive gifts for the holiday season. Bake sales have become a staple of Alpha Eta’s fundraising endeavors, as the fresh-baked goodies and fun activities planned throughout the sale are something that Long Island University students look forward to each semester.
The Toys for Tots fundraiser isn’t the only time the sisters of Alpha Eta chapter have collaborated with other organizations to host an outreach event. They also collaborated with professional student groups to set up a breast cancer walk to raise money to support breast cancer research, education, and patient support. Their passion for healthcare outreach doesn’t stop there, as the sisters plan annual flu clinic events where they administer influenza vaccines to patients in their local community.
How can the members of Alpha Eta chapter keep up with so many events? They push each other to remain active on their campus as a whole and hold positions in other organizations. By opening up a point of contact with other student groups, the Alpha Eta chapter expands their reach on campus and increases their opportunities for involvement in community service events. While their chapter may be small, the collaborations with other organizations and team efforts allow them to make a big impact in their community.
