Beta Chapter of Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences was reactivated on December 21, 2020. Now grown to 54 active sisters, the chapter actively engages with both the local and campus communities. To foster connections on campus, Beta Chapter hosted a picnic on the campus green, inviting students to gather, enjoy snacks, and share laughter. Held early in September, this event provided a relaxing and welcoming atmosphere for students to bond with sisters and each other before the semester’s workload increased. Additionally, the chapter organized a bake sale featuring homemade treats, with all proceeds benefiting Project HOPE. Another popular event was their bubble tea fundraiser, which drew significant participation from the campus community.
Beyond campus engagement, Beta Chapter prioritizes community service by partnering with The Red Bookshelf, an organization that restores donated books to a “good-as-new” condition before distributing them to children in need. The sisters also volunteered at the Radix Ecological Sustainability Center, where they packed vegetable bags, tilled the garden, harvested crops, fed chickens, and assisted with various sustainability efforts.
Supporting both student well-being and public health, Beta Chapter launched initiatives to promote awareness and relaxation. During midterms, they organized a “Self-Care Night,” where students could take a break from studying to enjoy face masks, calming music, and mindfulness activities. Additionally, the sisters participated in the Albany Health Expo, where they educated the community about postpartum depression.
Through these events, Beta Chapter continues to foster community, service, and sisterhood while making a meaningful impact both on and off campus. How can your chapter actively engage with your communities like Beta?
- Partnering with a nonprofit organization to establish long-term volunteer opportunities.
- Setting up educational posters in high-traffic areas to engage and inform the community.
- Organizing fundraisers to rally support for a cause.
