As the newest chapter of Lambda Kappa Sigma, Beta Epsilon chapter has already made a splash. Just recently founded in 2024, the chapter has already made an impact at the University of Iowa, growing 120% in their first year. With 18 active sisters, Beta Epsilon continues to find their way and learn as they go.
Beta Epsilon focuses their recruitment on getting to know the students at University of Iowa on a personal level. Their president stated, “We really try to be approachable and [have a] low barrier, letting PNMs know that we will be there for them regardless of them joining LKS or not”. This relaxed recruitment style helps the PNMs feel comfortable, and draws them in. Beta Epsilon’s sisters also have a strong desire to pay it forward to future students and focus on fostering big/little relationships and mentoring within their chapter.
The event that they are most proud of, is a professional event that was hosted with the SANE (Sexual Assault Nursing Examiner) coordinator from a local level 1 trauma center. The coordinator discussed what happens during a medical exam after a sexual assault, and how pharmacists can help in the care for survivors and their medical needs. This was a meaningful event to educate students, faculty, and staff, and we commend Beta Epsilon for working to spread awareness of this important topic.
Beta Epsilon was officially installed at last year’s convention in Milwaukee, WI. We were so grateful to have them join us and listen to their incredible speeches at “The Power to Inspire” speaking competition. Two of their members took home 1st and 2nd place, helping LKS to kick off an amazing first annual competition. We are so proud of all that Beta Epsilon has accomplished and cannot wait to see them again at the 2025 Convention in Pittsburgh, PA!
